Volvo Bus launches Volvo 8900 electric intercity bus, know what is special in it?

Volvo Buses expands its European electromobility offering to include operations both outside and within cities. The new Volvo 8900 Electric City, Intercity and Commuter Bus is an electric low-entry bus that has been designed to be an efficient, sustainable and profitable transportation option for operators. It is offered in both two- and three-door configurations to maximize the possibilities for operators. The first version of the Volvo 8900 Electric will be available in selected European markets by 2025.

Volvo low-floor electric buses have been highly successful, running daily in 25 countries. One of the major factors contributing to G’s success in the European market is the Volvo 8900, which has been in production since 2010. And the new 8900 electric platform builds on this success.

It makes sense to incorporate electrified solutions for intercity, transit and commuter operations, says Thomas Nerland, head of Volvo Buses Europe. But the 8900 Electric is a dedicated European offering and is another important step in our efforts to provide efficient and sustainable transportation solutions. Which is for skilled and flexible people.

High Capacity and Versatility

The Volvo 8900 Electric comes in two or three axle configurations with a capacity of up to 110 passengers. It can be specified with one or two motors providing traction power up to 400kW or 540 hp. Including modular battery systems up to 540 kWh, these options make the Volvo 8900 Electric suitable for a wide range of extended city and intercity operations.

Electric mobility is moving forward in Europe, and with Volvo Buses, we have gained first-hand experience with customers and partners for more than a decade. “With the launch of the Volvo 8900 Electric, we are confident that we now have a product and a complete offering that will be a long-term solution for customers, says Thomas Nerland.

Enhanced safety for all road users

The latest Volvo 8900 Electric comes with all active safety systems of Volvo buses. It has paid special attention to vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians and also included a number of safety features. An example is our collision warning system, which reacts not only to vehicles, as required by law, but also to pedestrians and cyclists. Safety systems include more safety systems than both the new EU regulations and the legal requirements of most non-EU European countries.

Volvo’s new 8900 electric bus targets intercity and commuter applications in transit. Using the new Volvo BZR Electric chassis, the Volvo 8900 Electric shares key components and sub-systems with other models built on Volvo Group’s common e-mobility architecture.
